steve kahn / will shortz
difficulty factor: no band-aids! only one small bump. this was as easy as easy gets for me.
theme: color shade/metal meets a body part
- 17A GOLD/FINGER
- 29A STEEL/HEAD
- 42A LEAD/BELLY
- 52A SILVER/BACK
the only minor glitch yet again concerns my stubborn nature to stick with a word long after multiple cross-clued possible answers give ample doubt to remain so resolute. in this case it was in the california corner, where CLUBS eventually became 47A ACTOR. even the DVB combination starting 43D was not even enough to sway me initially as i incorrectly assumed a nefarious string of initials must be at work here. anyway, working upward from 61A BASK, 47D ARAB and were fairly irrefutable proof that something was awry. but "woods" and golf clubs was just too strong an image to yield the right of way too easily. who is tiger irons... that must be it?! then jeremy irons filtered through and i wondered what actor was named woods... duh... perhaps james... or elijah...
