ny times online premium crossword puzzle
difficulty factor: the "o" at 14A and 2D was the last letter i guessed/filled... (but i started at the florida corner!)
theme: think 38A FOUR-H...
across the u.s. the 4-H motto/pledge is based on the center four lines:
as a loyal 4-h member, i pledge...
my head to clearer thinking,
my heart to greater loyalty,
my hands to larger service,
my health to better living,
for my family, my club, my community, my country, and my world."

ah, adam, a very gentle way to start the new year... thank you, i needed that!

well, if i had t' guess, i'd say the "o" at 14A and 2D is gonna throw a bunch o' folks for a wee bit of a loop... so either 14A "either of two directing brothers" COEN (joel and ethan)... or 2D "transvaal trekker" BOER will be right up there on the google-meter.
keep on keepin' on...
